shared by every market in the centre

The Brno Christmas market occupies the squares of the historic centre of Czechia’s second city. Two public organisers share the sites. The Brno-střed district council runs Zelný trh and several other sites under the name “Vánoce Brno”. TIC BRNO, the City’s tourist office, runs náměstí Svobody, Freedom Square, under the name “Brněnské Vánoce”. Each publishes its own calendar: the 2026 season runs from 13 November to 31 December for the first, and from 27 November to 23 December for the second.

Two organisers, two 2026 calendars

Brno-střed has organised the city-centre markets since 1993. Its sites: Zelný trh, the base of the Jošt statue and the park on Moravské náměstí, Bašty, Římské náměstí and Kapucínské náměstí, and part of náměstí Svobody. Its 2026 edition opens on 13 November and closes on 31 December 2026. In 2025, it ran from 14 November to 31 December.

TIC BRNO sets up its stalls on náměstí Svobody, on Dominikánské náměstí and in the courtyard of the Old Town Hall, under the patronage of the mayor. Its official dates for 2026 run from 27 November to 23 December. The office allows trial trading from 25 November and a possible extension to 26 December. In 2025, its stalls opened from 21 November to 23 December.

Keep one simple rule in mind for your visit. Before 25 November and after 26 December, only the Brno-střed sites are open. From 27 November to 23 December, the two programmes overlap and the whole centre is in full swing.

Around 230 stalls in the centre

In 2025, Brno-střed managed more than 160 stalls, 125 of them on Zelný trh. More than half of those 125 stalls sold handmade goods. TIC BRNO had 73: 55 on náměstí Svobody, 9 on Dominikánské náměstí and 9 in the Old Town Hall courtyard. For 2026, the office announces 54 stalls and a winter bar on náměstí Svobody, 10 on Dominikánské náměstí and 9 in the courtyard. Brno-střed has not published its 2026 figure.

Each site has its own character. Zelný trh brings together crafts and folk traditions around the Parnas fountain, lit up for the occasion, with a children’s village. The park on Moravské náměstí carries a 33-metre Ferris wheel and, at its foot, an ice rink. Dominikánské náměstí displays a hand-carved nativity scene, and the district council courtyard a second one. Bašty hosts a light trail. Náměstí Svobody keeps pride of place: in 1924, Brno raised there the first public Christmas tree in the Czech lands, according to CzechTourism and the tourist office.

Concerts, deposit cups and a European title

Náměstí Svobody schedules two concerts a day and a children’s slot at 3pm. Brno-střed counted more than 160 concerts and events across its sites in 2025. Both organisers apply the same 50 CZK deposit on cups at every market in the centre. The “Daruj kelímek” donation scheme raised more than 5 million crowns in 2025, with 350,000 cups in circulation.

CzechTourism and Brno-střed present Brno as “European Capital of Christmas 2024”. That year, the markets opened on 22 November. Neither organiser publishes visitor numbers.

2025 opening hours, to be confirmed for 2026

TIC BRNO opens its stalls from 10am to 8pm, and until midnight depending on the crowds. In 2025, the Old Town Hall courtyard only opened at 3pm on weekdays. The office had not published its 2026 timetable as of 8 October 2026. Brno-střed publishes no opening hours for its sites.

Getting to the Brno Christmas market

The main station, Brno hlavní nádraží, is a ten-minute walk from the markets. Trams serve the Česká, Hlavní nádraží and Malinovského náměstí stops. By car, the office points to the Domini park, Velký Špalíček and JD Parking car parks. For travel from abroad, we had found neither a direct connection nor a journey time as of 8 October 2026: check trains from Prague or Vienna with the operators before you book.

Our tip

Pick your week from the calendar: from 27 November to 23 December 2026, both organisers are running and the centre is complete. Before 25 November or after Christmas, only the Brno-střed sites, Zelný trh first among them, stay open. Bring crowns for the cup deposit, 50 CZK.
