Between Stuttgart and Munich, on the A8 motorway, LEGOLAND Deutschland swaps its water park and roller coasters for a short winter interlude lasting just a few weeks. LEGOLAND Deutschland at Christmas takes the form of an event called WinterWonder: an enlarged ice rink, a giant brick Christmas tree and indoor rides operate on selected dates between late November 2026 and 10 January 2027. The atmosphere is that of a theme park dressed for winter, designed for families with young children rather than for a wander between craft stalls. It can all be done in a day, with no need to plan a long stay.
The LEGOLAND WinterWonder programme, from the ice rink to the brick tree
The ice rink, enlarged for this fourth winter season, sits at the heart of the park alongside a curling lane open to families. A ten-metre tree built from 365,000 LEGO® and DUPLO® bricks rises above Miniland in the evening, when a laser show sweeps across the models of miniature cities. The LEGOLAND Express, lit up for the occasion, runs through the park while a winter parade goes by on every opening day, topped up with shows scheduled every half hour.
Younger visitors meet Father Christmas in his cabin, while the adults warm up around the Wintergrillen, a winter grill stand charging around €11.90 for a meal deal. The indoor rides stay open whatever the weather: NINJAGO The Ride, Temple X-pedition and the SEA LIFE aquarium run all season, a real plus when rain or the Bavarian cold sets in.
The Fire & Ice Tower thrill ride trades its summer look for an icy theme for the season, and the park’s restaurants, such as the Schnitzel Depot and Pizza Mania, stay open for a warm meal between rides.
The park plays a different card from craft chalets: a world of bricks turned into a winter setting, built to fill a whole family day.
LEGOLAND Deutschland at Christmas: 2026-2027 dates and opening hours
The 2026-2027 season does not run continuously: LEGOLAND Deutschland opens on selected dates, a pattern typical of German parks in winter. The announced calendar covers 28 and 29 November, then 4 to 6, 11 to 13, 18 to 23 and 26 to 30 December 2026, before a final stretch from 2 to 10 January 2027. The park is closed on 24, 25 and 31 December and on 1 January, days kept for family celebrations in Germany. This edition marks the fourth winter season of the Bavarian park, a format that is still recent compared with the region’s centuries-old Christmas markets.
The schedule is concentrated around weekends and the German Christmas holidays, a calendar designed first and foremost for local families rather than for a spur-of-the-moment short break from abroad.
In 2025-2026, opening hours ran from 11am to 7pm, with a later 2pm opening on some Fridays. The 2026-2027 schedule had not yet been published in early September 2026: check the exact hours before you set off, though they should stay close to this format.
Tickets and budget for a family of four
The WinterWonder ticket for the 2025-2026 season started at €24 per person, with a reduced price of around €19 in advance and €10 for annual pass holders. Parking cost €10 per vehicle. The 2026-2027 prices had not been published when checked on 2 September 2026: expect a similar level, without any certainty on the exact amount.
A flexible ticket, valid on any opening day of the season rather than a fixed date, cost about €29 in 2025-2026, compared with €24 for a dated ticket: an extra worth weighing up depending on how much leeway your trip has.
For a family of four, two adults and two children, the theoretical budget based on 2025-2026 prices comes to around €96 in tickets, plus parking, so about €106 for the day. By comparison, a standard ticket outside the winter season starts at €39 online and rises to €64 at the gate for visitors aged twelve and over, and €58 for two to eleven-year-olds: the winter window is noticeably lighter on the wallet.
Regulars often go for the annual pass: the LEGOLAND Basic Card starts at around €79 and covers the WinterWonder season as well as the regular season, a sum that starts to pay off from the second visit of the year.
Online, the bill stays lower than at the gate as soon as 2026-2027 ticket sales open: the price gap quickly adds up on a family budget, and the most popular dates, often December weekends, fill up first.
From Paris or Strasbourg: getting to Günzburg by train or car
Günzburg is in Bavaria, on the A8 motorway between Stuttgart and Munich, at the exit of the same name. From Alsace, allow about three hours by road from Strasbourg, via Stuttgart and then Ulm. If you prefer rail, a TGV from Paris to Stuttgart continues with a regional train to Günzburg station, the last leg taking about an hour and a quarter; a shuttle then links the station to the park.
The road from Strasbourg crosses Baden-Württemberg via Karlsruhe and Stuttgart, with no tolls once you are over the German border. In the depths of winter, it is wise to carry snow equipment on the Bavarian sections, which are sometimes snowy in December and January.
The journey is a long one if you are setting off from Paris: allow a full day of travel each way, which argues for a stop in Stuttgart or Munich rather than a day return. Both cities have their own Christmas market, to combine with the park in a stay of several days.
- Tree made of 365,000 LEGO® and DUPLO® bricks, rising ten metres above Miniland.
- From France: about three hours by road from Strasbourg, or TGV Paris-Stuttgart then a regional train to Günzburg. The Strasbourg Christmas market is the most natural stop if you are coming by road.
- A stop in Stuttgart or Munich breaks up the journey, each with its own market: Stuttgart Christmas market and Munich Christmas market.
- The park’s holiday village with castle-themed rooms, packages from €104 per person, based on 2025-2026, breakfast and two days in the park included.
- WinterWonder ticket from €24 per person for the 2025-2026 season; 2026-2027 prices not published in early September 2026.
Where to stay and who this Bavarian Christmas is for
The park’s holiday village offers castle-themed rooms, with packages including breakfast and two days’ park entry from €104 per person based on 2025-2026 prices. The big advantage is being right next to the rides, handy with young children and a programme that starts early in the morning.
Outside the park, Günzburg and Ulm, about twenty minutes away, have ordinary hotels at more affordable prices, with the option of combining your visit with Ulm’s historic centre and its minster, the tallest church spire in the world. Ulm, a university town that is lively all year round, rounds off a stay built around the park nicely.
LEGOLAND Deutschland at Christmas is aimed first and foremost at families with children aged three to twelve, the age when bricks, the ice rink and the evening parades really hit the mark. Teenagers and adults without children will find more to enjoy at a big German Christmas market such as Nuremberg or Munich, where the craft atmosphere and Glühwein stands take up all the space.
The park stays closed for much of the winter outside the WinterWonder dates: check the calendar before planning other stops around your visit.
Our tip
Pick a weekday outside the German and Bavarian school holidays to avoid the peak crowds of December weekends.
