At Brühl, between Cologne and Bonn, the big German park swaps its usual look for a winter one: this is Phantasialand at Christmas, under the name Wintertraum. The park’s themed quarters fill with garlands and Christmas trees, an ice rink opens in the Berlin quarter, and the “Magic Symphony” show closes each evening with fireworks. The formula is still that of a theme park dressed for the season, dated ticket in hand, designed for families with children and for anyone wanting to extend the Christmas mood on the German side, three and a half hours’ drive from Metz or four from Strasbourg. For anyone living in northern or eastern France, the trip fills a full weekend, with or without a stop at a Christmas market around Cologne or Aachen.

Wintertraum at Brühl: the park’s Christmas programme

The layout of the park does not change: the Berlin, Mexico, China Town and Mystery worlds stay in place, simply dressed in winter decorations for the season. Seven shows shape the programme, three in heated halls and four outdoors, spread across several quarters of the park: among them Rock on Ice, Arctaris, Tiempo de Fuego and Pulse of Rookburgh. Each evening closes with “Magic Symphony”, the closing show that combines music, light effects and fireworks above the park.

The Berlin quarter houses the season’s ice rink, open throughout to visitors with a ticket. The youngest have their own space in “Winni Snow”, a snow corner designed for those not yet riding the big attractions. The park’s rides keep running all winter, rollercoasters included for anyone with a head for it: Taron and Chiapas carry on turning, Christmas season or not. The “Lights of Memories” trail dresses the façades with garlands and projections in the evening, linking the different quarters with a shared thread of light.

On the food side, stands put up for the occasion serve mulled wine and grilled salmon, among other winter dishes, though the park publishes no real count of chalets.

Phantasialand at Christmas 2026: dates, opening times and prices

For the 2026-2027 season, Phantasialand at Christmas runs from 14 November 2026 to 24 January 2027, every day from 11am to 8pm. The park is closed on 24 and 25 December 2026, on 1 January 2027, and on 12 and 13 January 2027; on 31 December the gates close earlier, at 6pm, before the turn of the year. These dates appear on the park’s official site, checked on 2 September 2026: a long season, open daily for more than two months, which leaves plenty of scope to plan the visit for a quiet day rather than a busy weekend.

Tickets stay dated and valid only for the day chosen: no transfer and no refund once the purchase is confirmed. The park’s ticket office shows a dated price list for the season: €29 to €39 for ages 12 and over on the December 2026 and January 2027 dates, and up to €48 depending on the date in November, with free entry under 4. Child prices for 4 to 11s only appear once a date has been chosen (recorded on 16/09/2026). Tickets are sold online only, on the park’s site: no sales at the gate are announced for this season.

From France: train, car and getting to Brühl

By train, the most direct combination starts from Paris: a Eurostar links Paris to Cologne, then a regional train finishes the journey to Brühl in about twenty minutes. From Brühl station, a shuttle serves the park entrance, for about €6 return, free for children under one metre and for people with disabilities. Tram line 18 on the Cologne network also stops at Brühl Mitte, a few stops from the park shuttle, a useful alternative for anyone already staying on the Cologne side.

By car, the route runs via the A553, Brühl-Süd exit. From Metz, allow about three and a half hours’ drive; from Strasbourg, closer to four, through Germany or through Belgium depending on traffic. From Aachen, right by the Belgian and Dutch borders, the journey comes down to less than an hour, which makes it a handy stop for combining the two visits. The park has two car parks at the entrance, Mystery and China, for anyone who prefers to keep the car close by.

Where to stay: park hotels and around Cologne

Three themed hotels extend the visit on site: Ling Bao, with an Asian slant, Matamba, in an African setting, and Charles Lindbergh, built around early twentieth-century aviation. Each offers winter packages combining a night’s stay and park access, an option for anyone wanting to string together two days without driving in between, or to enjoy the “Magic Symphony” show without watching the clock for the last train.

On the town side, Cologne holds most of the hotel options, twenty minutes away by train, with the advantage of staying near the cathedral Christmas market as well, one of the great events of the season in the Rhineland. Bonn, a little closer still, remains an alternative for anyone preferring a quieter stop, with its own places to stay and equally direct rail access to Brühl.

Family budget and practical tips

For two adults and two children aged 4 to 11, the ticket-only budget varies a great deal depending on the date. On the cheapest dates, at €29 per person, allow €116 for the family, taking the 12-and-over price for all four. On the busiest December and January dates, at €39, the same outing rises to €156, with child prices possibly bringing the total down once the date is chosen. Neither food on site nor the station-to-park shuttle, at €6 return per person, is included in this calculation; these figures, recorded on 16/09/2026 from the park’s ticket office, deserve to be checked again before booking.

The programme is aimed first at families with children and at rollercoaster fans who like the idea of a park lit up in the evening: to be distinguished from a town-centre market, with paid entry and a ticket dated in advance rather than free access on a town square. The Rhineland weather in November and December stays changeable, between fine rain and dry cold depending on the year, which counts as much in packing as in planning the visit.

  • Choose a weekday, outside the German school holidays, to limit waiting times at the rides and enjoy a price that is often lower.
  • Take warm clothes and closed shoes: a good part of the winter programme, ice rink and market included, happens outdoors.
  • Round off the trip with Cologne Christmas market or with Aachen Christmas market, less than an hour’s drive away.
  • If you set off from north-eastern France, pair the visit with Metz Christmas market before taking the road to Germany.
  • The mulled wine served on the park’s stands can also be made at home, with a mulled wine recipe to carry the evening on once you are back.

Our tip

Choose a weekday outside the German school holidays: the €29 tickets go quickly, and the queues at the rides stay much shorter.
