It had around 260 chalets in 2025, according to the City, against 230 the year before, then split equally between food and crafts. A mobile-phone study published by the City counted 1,025,887 visits from 29 November 2025 to 7 January 2026, each person counted once a day, against 812,389 a year earlier. One visitor in ten came from abroad.
2026 dates and opening hours
The 2026 edition is held from 20 November 2026 to 7 January 2027, according to the City. Reread the 2026 timetable on wroclaw.pl before you go. In 2025, the market opened every day from 10am to 9pm, closed on 24 and 25 December and 1 January, reopened on 26 December at 1pm; on 31 December, the craft chalets closed at 5pm and the food stalls served until 2am.
The 2025-2026 edition was the 18th. The organisation falls to Agencja Artystyczna Pianoforte, the operator chosen by the City for the 2024-2025, 2025-2026 and 2026-2027 seasons. The chalets occupy the four sides of the Rynek, Świdnicka street as far as the underpass, with an extension towards the Opera in 2025, Oławska street as far as Szewska street, and plac Solny. In 2025-2026, the Rynek received 30.7% of visits, plac Solny 23.5%, Świdnicka street 23.1% and Oławska street 22.7%.
Five kingdoms around the Rynek
In 2025, each side of the Rynek had a theme: the “Kingdom of Fairy Tales” (Kraina Baśni) to the west, the “Kingdom of the Forest Gnomes” to the north, the “Little Enchanted Forest” to the east, with its rides and little train, the “Kingdom of Dwarfs and Reindeer” to the south, and the “Kingdom of Elves” on plac Solny. The same year, a Christmas-tree-shaped carousel turned on the north side, and a 5.5 m light gate marked the entrance to Oławska street. In 2024, the Rynek tree measured 24 m and carried 120,000 lights.
In 2025, the food stalls served cooking from several countries, Alsatian flammekueche, churros, lángos and kürtőskalács, alongside sweets, honey, mulled wine and hot chocolate. More than 70% of the 230 exhibitors of the 2025-2026 season came from Lower Silesia. In 2026, the City runs eight chalets on the west side of the Rynek, “Wrocław Społecznie i Lokalnie”, where producers and artisans from the region take turns.
The boot-shaped mug
The market has its collector’s item: the boot-shaped mug, “kubeczek bucik”, whose design changes every year; the City counted 50,000 sold in 2023. The tradition here goes back to the Kindelmarkt, documented in 1566, which disappeared in the early 20th century and then returned twice before 1945; the current market dates from 2008. The City also tells how, in 1761, a pastry cook on Świdnicka street, Lessing’s landlord, sold on the Rynek a gingerbread bearing an unflattering likeness of the writer.
Two neighbourhood markets in 2025
In 2025, two neighbourhood markets opened for the first time, far from the centre and for a short period: “Kraina Koni”, the Kingdom of Horses, at the Partynice racecourse, from 6 to 21 December, and the “Zaczarowany Jarmark pod Zamkiem” in Leśnica, on plac Świętojański in front of the castle, from 13 to 21 December, with chalets of regional products. Check whether they return in 2026 on wroclaw.pl.
Getting to the Wrocław Christmas market
During the market, Wrocław Copernicus Airport receives direct flights from Paris-Beauvais, Marseille, Basel-Mulhouse, Brussels-Charleroi, Zurich, London (Luton, Stansted), Madrid and Rome-Ciampino, according to its winter timetable; the Orly and Nice routes stop at the end of October. Airlines, flight days and operating periods vary from one route to another, and some routes are seasonal: check them when you book. The airport’s winter timetable starts on 25 October 2026.
In the city, the four market sites touch: plac Solny adjoins the south-west corner of the Rynek, and Świdnicka and Oławska streets lead off it to the south and to the east. Everything is done on foot.
- The Kraków Christmas market occupies the Rynek Główny from 27 November 2026, according to its organiser, with its nativity scene competition.
- The Warsaw Christmas market is shared between the old town and plac Defilad; further south, the listings of the Prague Christmas market and the Vienna Christmas market complete a central European tour.
Our tip
The market closes on 24 and 25 December and 1 January, and reopens on 26 December at 1pm, according to the 2025 timetable: if you are spending the holidays in Wrocław, aim for the 23rd or the 26th. The Rynek takes a little under a third of visits; plac Solny and the two streets each receive a little over a fifth, which gives you room to breathe when the square is full. Reread the 2026 opening hours on wroclaw.pl before you go.
