Specialities to try

The flavours that make this market what it is

Glühwein and hot chocolate around the Madame Zita restaurant and the Strandhuys

the two drinks highlighted for the 2025 edition according to the kerstmarkten.net listings

Vught is a municipality in North Brabant, right next to ’s-Hertogenbosch (Den Bosch), in the south of the Netherlands. Its Christmas market is held outside the centre, at the IJzeren Man leisure site, a lake with its own beach, in the woods, on the edge of the Vughtse Heide heathland. The Vught Christmas market, the Kerstmarkt bij IJM, returns for two weekends, on 12, 13, 19 and 20 December 2026, from 11am to 5pm, with close to 200 wooden chalets announced by the operator, live music and small fires between the rows. Entry and parking are free.

The Vught Christmas market on the shore of the IJzeren Man lake

The IJzeren Man in Vught (the name also belongs to other lakes in the country, in Weert or Eindhoven) is a leisure base with a beach, the Strandbad, a family restaurant, Madame Zita, a pavilion, the Strandhuys, and a treetop adventure course. In winter, the chalets take over the Strandbad terrace and the area around Madame Zita, with the lake behind and the woods all around. The operator describes nostalgic covered wooden chalets of 2.50 m by 1 m, and is planning a seventh edition for 2026, over two weekends as in previous years.

For the 2025 edition, the organiser announced 180 chalets and some 10,000 visitors per weekend. Its 2026 page speaks of “close to 200 chalets”, while the summary table on the same page keeps 180: count on 180 to 200 stalls. The scene relies on the Christmas lighting set up across the site, the fairy lights and those small fires you warm up around between two rows of chalets.

Glühwein, hot chocolate and live music

The atmosphere rests on the music. Every year the organiser puts out a call to musicians, choirs, brass bands and small ensembles, who play among the chalets on all four days. The food is concentrated around Madame Zita and the Strandhuys; according to the kerstmarkten.net listings, the 2025 edition put glühwein and hot chocolate to the fore. The recipes of the Netherlands, Alsace and the Nordic countries are compared in mulled wine and its variants.

One detail to know before you order: the Strandbad kiosk, the Madame Zita restaurant and the Strandhuys accept bank cards only, whereas the chalets take cash or card depending on the stallholder.

Dates, opening hours and practical information for 2026

The 2026 dates are published by the operator and picked up by VisitBrabant: Saturday 12, Sunday 13, Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 December 2026, from 11am to 5pm. The market is closed on weekdays, and each day ends at 5pm, with no late opening. In 2025, the sixth edition took place on 13, 14, 20 and 21 December.

  • Where: IJzeren Man Vught, Boslaan 49, 5263 NX Vught, Strandbad terrace and the area around the Madame Zita restaurant.
  • When: 12, 13, 19 and 20 December 2026, from 11am to 5pm.
  • How much: free entry; bank card in the site’s catering outlets, cash or card depending on the chalet.
  • Parking: free on-site car park (500 to 750 spaces according to the operator’s pages) and a large unsupervised bicycle park; cars left along the Boslaan risk being towed away.
  • Nearby: Winter Efteling is 27 km away, half an hour’s drive; Toverland in winter 80 km away; the Antwerp Christmas market 94 km away, on the way back to France.

Access for people with reduced mobility is not specified by the organiser: ask the IJzeren Man (073 657 20 93) before you come. The site is open ground, with a hard-surfaced terrace for the chalets and woodland paths around it.

Getting to Vught from France, then on to the IJzeren Man

By train, the Eurostar links Paris-Nord to Rotterdam Centraal in about 2h37, with up to 13 departures a day; from there, an NS train takes you to ’s-Hertogenbosch, whose station is 5.9 km from the site, or to Vught station, 2.9 km away. No shuttle is laid on by the organiser. From Vught station, it takes 38 minutes on foot or a quarter of an hour by bike; from ’s-Hertogenbosch, 23 minutes by bike or about ten minutes by car. A local bus route links ’s-Hertogenbosch station to the “De IJzeren Man” stop on the Boslaan; on Sundays, car or bike remain the safest choice, and the day’s service can be checked on the 9292.nl journey planner.

By car, it is 435 km and about 5 hours’ drive from Paris, 218 km and about 2h40 from Lille, without traffic, to the Boslaan car park. The operator puts the site 12 minutes from ’s-Hertogenbosch, 20 from Tilburg, 28 from Eindhoven, 33 from Breda and an hour from Rotterdam.

Around the lake: heathland, dunes and remembrance

The site borders the Vughtse Heide, a protected heathland, and the Loonse en Drunense Duinen national park, with its inland sand dunes, is close by: two walking grounds for the morning, before arriving at the market. The Nationaal Monument Kamp Vught, the memorial of the former concentration camp, is next to the site; visiting it calls for a different frame of mind and a different time slot from the market.

Our tip

Bring a bank card: the Strandbad kiosk, the Madame Zita restaurant and the Strandhuys take nothing else, and the chalets accept cash or card depending on the stallholder.
