On the Riviera, Antibes Christmas market sits in an old-town setting: ramparts dropping into the Mediterranean, the yachts of Port Vauban lined up a few steps away, and the Pré-des-Pêcheurs esplanade filling with chalets facing the sea. People come here for a mild Christmas, with no snow but the lapping of the waves as a soundtrack and the medieval lanes of Vieil Antibes lighting up after dark. All of it free, and eight minutes' walk from the station.

Antibes Christmas market, a village set between ramparts and yachts

The heart of the festivities beats on the Pré-des-Pêcheurs esplanade, a large open square squeezed between the old town ramparts and Port Vauban, Europe's biggest marina. On one side, you walk past food and craft chalets; on the other, your gaze drifts to the white hulls of the yachts moored below Fort Carré. The mood is far more Riviera than mountain: you stroll in a light jumper, warm drink in hand, without the biting cold of the Alsace markets.

The 33-metre Ferris wheel towers over it all. Once at the top, the view sweeps across the bay, the tiled rooftops of Vieil Antibes and, in the distance, the snowy peaks of the Mercantour. Down below come a carousel, a hook-a-swan game, a little Christmas train and wooden games for younger children. Two minutes from the esplanade, Place Nationale hosts a children's village for ages 2 to 10, with rides, free workshops under the bandstand and an illuminated letterbox for writing to Father Christmas.

Provençal and Niçois specialities to try on the spot

Antibes Christmas market blends two food traditions: Provence and the nearby Nice area. On the stalls, olive oil, tapenade, jams, soap and aromatic herbs sit alongside seasonal treats. On the sweet side, calissons from Aix and nougats take top billing, in the spirit of the thirteen desserts that round off the Provençal Christmas meal.

For a quick bite, look out for socca, a chickpea flour pancake baked over a wood fire, a Niçois speciality you eat piping hot. Fougasse with candied fruit and tourte de blettes (Swiss chard pie) complete the local line-up, alongside roast chestnuts, crêpes and chocolates. A glass of mulled wine goes well with it all: if you want to make it at home, start with our article on mulled wine and its variations.

Speciality Origin Good to know
Socca Nice Chickpea pancake, eaten hot
Tourte de blettes Nice Comes in sweet or savoury versions
Calissons Aix-en-Provence Almond and candied melon
Fougasse Provence Candied fruit version at Christmas

Old town, Picasso Museum and events around the market

The great thing about Antibes is that you can pair the market with a proper heritage walk. From the Pré-des-Pêcheurs, a few minutes' climb takes you into the cobbled lanes of Vieil Antibes, up to the Château Grimaldi, home to the Picasso Museum, facing the Mediterranean. The covered Provençal market on Cours Masséna, close by, is also worth a look for its fresh produce stalls.

The entertainment reaches well beyond the market. Father Christmas arrives on water skis in the bay, a very local sight worth catching. A 200 m² natural ice rink sets up in Juan-les-Pins, in Square Jacques Leonetti, from 19 December (2025 edition): free up to age 10, €3 above. Concerts, street art, an educational farm and fireworks also mark the festive season across the town.

Fancy comparing with the big neighbouring cities? Nice Christmas market and its giant ice rink are twenty minutes away by train, and Marseille Christmas market awaits further west, with its santons (Provençal crib figures) and the fair devoted to them.

Practical info: hours, access and price

The 2025 edition ran from 29 November 2025 to 4 January 2026. The village opens every day from 11am to 9pm, until 10pm on Fridays and Saturdays, with adjusted hours on 24, 25 and 31 December and 1 January. Entry is free. The 2026 dates have not been officially announced yet: late November to early January remains the usual pattern, to be confirmed on the town's website.

By train, Antibes station is eight minutes' walk from the Pré-des-Pêcheurs, which makes a car optional. If you are driving, the Q-Park Pré-des-Pêcheurs car park (571 spaces, Avenue de Verdun) opens directly onto the esplanade and the port. Allow a good hour and a half for the market alone, half a day if you add the old town and the Picasso Museum.

Our tip

Arrive in the late afternoon: the lanes of Vieil Antibes light up after dark and the Ferris wheel gives its best view over the bay at sunset. Come by train, as the station is eight minutes' walk away and parking fills up fast over the holidays.
