A Christmas market where the fairy lights hang from palm trees: Nice Christmas market fully embraces its Mediterranean setting. Every winter, the Jardin Albert-Ier and Place Masséna fill with wooden chalets, a few steps from the Promenade des Anglais. You wander in a puffer jacket while the Baie des Anges glitters behind the Ferris wheel. The contrast is the whole appeal: elsewhere people chase the snow, here you savour Christmas under the Riviera winter sun.

A Christmas village between the sea and the old town

Nice's Village de Noël occupies the Jardin Albert-Ier, the large green space tucked between Place Masséna, the Promenade du Paillon and the seafront. More than sixty chalets are spread across several themed areas. The Place aux Festins gathers the savoury food chalets, the bars and a stage for concerts. The Chemin de Caléna lines up santons (Provençal nativity figures), Christmas ornaments and arts and crafts. The Monde du Père Noël, meanwhile, concentrates everything that makes children's eyes light up: Father Christmas's illuminated house, a letterbox for posting wish lists, photo backdrops.

Entry is free. You only pay for the rides, the Ferris wheel and whatever you nibble on. The route links Place Masséna to the green corridor of the Promenade du Paillon, which makes it as much an illuminated city walk as a Christmas market in the classic sense.

Ferris wheel, ice rink and Father Christmas's house

The Ferris wheel remains the signature attraction of Nice Christmas market. Set up on the Masséna side, it gives a bird's-eye view of the 100% LED illuminations winding from the city centre down to the Promenade des Anglais. Go up at nightfall: the sea on one side, the glowing chequerboard of the square on the other, hard to find anything more photogenic.

In the heart of the garden, an open-air ice rink welcomes skaters big and small beneath the palm trees. Add the children's rides, craft workshops such as ceramic painting, and the shows and live music scheduled throughout the season, and you have a full afternoon without leaving the village.

Socca and Swiss chard pie at the foot of the Christmas trees

When it comes to food, Nice plays its local card. The Christmas market classics are all present, roast chestnuts, gingerbread, mulled wine, but the real interest lies elsewhere: Niçois cooking is on offer a few steps from the chalets. A piping-hot slice of socca, the chickpea flatbread with crisp edges, goes surprisingly well with the festive mood. The tourte de blettes, a sweet, fragrant Swiss chard pie, makes a seasonal dessert that's a change from gingerbread. Want to go further? The old town starts on the other side of the square: pissaladière, petits farcis and the Cours Saleya are a five-minute walk away.

Nice Christmas market dates, opening hours and access

The 2026 edition has not yet been announced by the City of Nice. The village sets up every year from late November to the first weekend of January: the last edition ran from 28 November 2025 to 4 January 2026. Keep those markers in mind and check the official website before you fix your date.

Day Opening hours (2025 edition, to be confirmed for 2026)
Monday to Wednesday 12pm to 9pm
Thursday and Friday 12pm to 11pm
Saturday 11am to 11pm
Sunday 11am to 9pm
24 and 31 December 12pm to 7pm

To get there, tram line L1 drops you at the Masséna or Opéra Vieille Ville stops, two minutes from the garden. If you drive, aim for the Masséna or Corvesy car parks, both very close. And if you are building a tour of the southern markets, Aix-en-Provence Christmas market and Marseille Christmas market pair well with Nice over a long weekend, the three cities being linked by train.

Our tip

Go up on the Ferris wheel at nightfall: the illuminations come on between Place Masséna and the sea, and it's the best viewpoint in the whole village.
