Rossio: little wooden houses, a little train and a parade

On Praça Dom Pedro IV, the ADBP (Associação de Dinamização da Baixa Pombalina) lines up dozens of little wooden houses of crafts, traditional sweets and gift ideas; Turismo de Lisboa says their number doubled in 2025. The Christmas exhibition of the Hospital de Bonecas, the Baixa’s doll hospital, presented a collection whose pieces go back more than 190 years.

Wonderland Lisboa occupies Parque Eduardo VII, above Marquês de Pombal square, over 12,000 m² in 2025: a Ferris wheel, an ice rink presented as ecological, a Santa’s house, a big Christmas tree and a craft and food market, sweets, hot drinks and handmade gifts. Entry is free; in 2024, according to Time Out Lisboa, the Ferris wheel cost €6, the rides €5 and the little train €4.50. European Best Destinations awarded it the title of Best Sunny Christmas Market, the sunniest Christmas market, according to Turismo de Lisboa.

Between Parque Eduardo VII and Alvalade, the Campo Pequeno bullring hosts a Mercado de Natal over two long weekends: from 28 November to 1 December and from 5 to 8 December in 2025, according to Turismo de Lisboa (metro Campo Pequeno).

Getting to the Lisbon Christmas market

Lisbon is reached by air: several airlines serve it from Paris and the major French cities, Brussels, Geneva, Zurich, London, Madrid and Rome. Compare flights when you book, some routes are seasonal. In the city, the Rossio and Parque Eduardo VII are around 2 km apart.

Our tip

The Rossio closes before Christmas (on 21 December in 2025): if you are spending the holidays in Lisbon, it is Wonderland Lisboa that stays open until early January, with reduced hours on 24, 25 and 31 December and 1 January. On Fridays, Saturdays and the eves of public holidays, the little houses of the Rossio close at 11pm, an hour later than on other days.
