Eguisheim Christmas market has built its reputation on two words: authentic and compact. No Ferris wheel, no ice rink, just around thirty chalets set on the cobbles of a spiral-shaped medieval village. You can see it all in half a day, and that is exactly the point.

When to go

The 2026 edition runs from 27 November to 30 December, closed on the 24th, 25th and 26th. Opening hours vary by day: 12pm-7pm Monday to Thursday, 10am-7pm Friday to Sunday. From 15 December, it opens every day from 10am to 7pm. The best moment is still nightfall, when the fairy lights come on across the half-timbered façades.

What sets Eguisheim Christmas market apart

The “Villes et Villages de Noël” label rewards a clear choice: tradition over spectacle. Winegrowers open their vaulted cellars for tastings of Gewurztraminer, Riesling and Pinot Gris. You will cross paths with the Night Watchman on his rounds, a giant Advent calendar and the Christmas cellars. The crafts stay local: bredele biscuits, gingerbread, wooden decorations.

Getting there and parking

Eguisheim is 6 km from Colmar. If you drive, two free car parks come in handy: La Tuilerie and Le Millénaire. The Mairie and Marronniers car parks are paid (€4 a day). Without a car, the TER 200 regional train serves Colmar, with a connection on to the village.

What to combine it with nearby

This corner of Alsace is packed with markets. A few minutes away, Colmar plays the picture-postcard town, while Riquewihr and Kaysersberg carry on the village spirit. One day is enough to string two or three together. Entry is free everywhere, and bring comfortable shoes for the cobbles.

Our tip

Come at nightfall, when the lights come on across the half-timbered houses. Park at La Tuilerie or Le Millénaire (both free) and walk the loop around the village.
