The flavours that make this market what it is

Food and Christmas gifts on the stalls in the centre; handmade and vintage pieces from the local and regional makers of the Zeldzaam Mooi Kerstmarkt

On Sunday 13 December 2026, from 12pm to 6pm, the centre of Arnhem fills with stalls: more than 100 of them, for what the city’s promotion calls De Grootste Kerstmarkt van het Oosten, “the biggest Christmas market in the East”. The Arnhem Christmas market therefore fits into a single day, doubled on the same Sunday by the Zeldzaam Mooi Kerstmarkt, a makers’ market on the Jansplein, and accompanied, from Friday 11 to Sunday 13 December, by the KerstKelders, a Christmas market held in the city’s historic cellars. From France, Arnhem is reached by Eurostar via Amsterdam or Rotterdam and then an NS train, or by motorway from Lille in three and a half hours.

More than 100 stalls in the shopping streets

The main market is a street market spread across the centre: accessories, clothing, jewellery, food and Christmas offers on more than 100 stalls, according to the Winter in Arnhem page of the #intoarnhem promotion office. “The biggest in the East” is the name of the event rather than an established ranking. Stallholders register through Zeldzaam Mooi, which sets up its own makers’ market on the same Sunday.

On the Jansplein and around it, this Zeldzaam Mooi Kerstmarkt brings together local and regional makers, handmade and vintage goods, with live music in the shopping streets. The participating districts run from the Musiskwartier to the Bovenbeekstraat by way of the Koningstraat, the 7straatjes, the Bakkerstraat, the Rozet Kwartier, the Jansplaats, the Weverstraat, the Kleine Oord and the Wezenstraat: enough to cross the whole centre in an afternoon.

The KerstKelders, an Arnhem Christmas market beneath the cobbles

From Friday 11 to Sunday 13 December 2026, from 10am to 7pm, the Historische Kelders at Oude Oeverstraat 4 host the KerstKelders, an initiative of De Vloer, a performing arts school. Tickets cost €7.50 per adult and booking is recommended, as capacity is limited for fire safety. The cellars, with their uneven floors and steep stairs, are hard to access for people with reduced mobility; pushchairs are left at the entrance.

Getting to Arnhem from France

The Eurostar (formerly Thalys) Paris-Nord, Brussels-Midi, Rotterdam, Schiphol, Amsterdam Centraal takes 3h20 to Amsterdam, with around ten direct departures a day; from Amsterdam or Rotterdam, an NS train takes you to Arnhem Centraal, a few hundred metres north-west of the Jansplein. By car, without traffic: 502 km and a little under 6 hours from Paris, 286 km and about 3h30 from Lille, 535 km and about 5h30 from Strasbourg. On market Sunday, leave the car at the P+R Gelredome and take bus 7, 11 or 331 to the centre.

Our tip

Book your KerstKelders tickets online before you leave, as the cellars have limited capacity; on Sunday 13 December, the two street markets are then done on foot between the Jansplein and the shopping streets.
