Entry is free; the rides are paid for, including a 40-metre Ferris wheel, the Julestjernen. The organiser, Lund Gruppen Arrangement AS, founded in 2007, comes from a group of fairground operators active since 1895. For a more traditional market, the Norsk Folkemuseum, on the Bygdøy peninsula, opens its own on two December weekends, with more than 100 stalls among its old houses.
2026 dates and opening hours
Jul i Vinterland opens on 7 November 2026 and stays open every day until 3 January 2027, with the exception of 24 December. The 2026 opening hours are on julivinterland.no. 25 and 26 December and 1 January are public holidays in Norway: shops close on those three days, and many attractions on 24, 25 and 31 December and 1 January, according to Visit Oslo.
Ferris wheel, free ice rink and a sky of stars
The Julestjernen Ferris wheel, “the Christmas star”, rises to 40 metres; the organiser presents it as brand new. The Spikersuppa ice rink reopens with the market in November 2026, free of charge, with your own skates or ones hired on site. Above the street, the Stjernehimmelen, a sky of lights installed in 2018, runs from the Nationaltheatret to Eidsvolls plass. Free concerts and shows punctuate the season, according to Visit Oslo. On the plates in 2025: gløgg and cocoa, julegrøt (Christmas rice pudding) served piping hot, sausages, grilled elk at Bekkereinan, raclette and street food.
