Specialities to try

The flavours that make this market what it is

Glögi at the restaurant on the square and doughnuts from the café; craft and food chalets; glass-blowing and blacksmithing demonstrations according to Visit Finland; shops and small craft stalls in the wooden houses of Tallipiha

The Tampere Christmas market, Tampereen Joulutori, sets up on the Keskustori, the central square, between the Tampere Theatre and the city hall. The City has published the 2026 season: partial opening on Saturday 21 November, with the glögi restaurant, the doughnut café and a few chalets, then the full market from 28 November to 22 December 2026, open on 6 December too, Independence Day. Less than a kilometre away, the Tallipiha courtyard, in the Finlayson district, holds its own Christmas from 14 November to 23 December 2026.

2026 dates and opening hours

The market’s shops open every day from 11am to 7pm, the glögi restaurant from 11am to 8pm. The season stretches over a month, from 21 November, in reduced form, to 22 December 2026. On 6 December, a public holiday in Finland, the market stays open. As in Helsinki and Turku, it closes before Christmas Eve.

Glögi, doughnuts and craft chalets on the Keskustori

The heart of the market is its glögi restaurant, serving the Finnish mulled wine, and its doughnut café, both open from 21 November. Around them, the chalets sell crafts and food. Visit Finland describes glass-blowing and blacksmithing demonstrations, and a daily visit from Santa Claus. The market is run by the City of Tampere.

Tallipiha, the stable yard of the Finlayson district

At Tallipiha, Kuninkaankatu 4, the 19th-century wooden houses of the former stable yard hold shops, a café and small craft stalls; animals are on show there, sheep, a donkey and a pony. Tallipiha’s Christmas runs from 14 November to 23 December 2026, a week before and a day after the Keskustori market. Check the opening hours on the Tallipiha website (tallipiha.fi) before you go; entry is free.

Getting to the Tampere Christmas market

No direct flight links Tampere with France, Belgium, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Madrid or Rome for winter 2026-2027: Tampere airport receives only Málaga and Riga on Finavia’s list. The way in is through Helsinki, which has direct flights from Paris-CDG, Nice, Brussels, Charleroi, Zurich, Geneva, London, Madrid and Rome, then by train: 1 hr 40 min to 1 hr 55 min between Helsinki and Tampere according to VR’s timetables, on vr.fi.

In the city, the Keskustori is in the centre, at Keskustori 1; Tallipiha is at Kuninkaankatu 4, in the Finlayson district.

Our tip

Come after 28 November if you want the full market: on 21 November, only the glögi restaurant, the doughnut café and a few chalets open. On 6 December, Independence Day, the market is open. Book the train from Helsinki on vr.fi, as Tampere has no direct flight from France, Belgium or Switzerland.
