Location: Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort, glass igloos south of Saariselkä
Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort, glass igloos south of Saariselkä in pictures
Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort occupies the hamlet of Kakslauttanen, south of Saariselkä, at Kiilopääntie 9. Its glass igloos come in three sizes: the 25 m² Small Glass Igloo, the 38 m² Large Glass Igloo and the 90 m² Kelo-Glass Igloo, half logs, half glass. Log cabins complete the estate, and a Santa’s house can be visited by reservation.
What winter looks like there
The glass igloos are open throughout the northern lights season, which begins around the third week of August and ends around the end of April. The winter offers are dated from 1 November 2026 to 30 April 2027, Christmas included. You have dinner, then sleep under the glass. Nothing guarantees an aurora; in winter, the night is long and leaves hours for watching.
Getting there from Saariselkä
The resort is about 20 minutes from Saariselkä. Ivalo airport is 25 km from the resort, a 25-minute drive, with a seasonal shuttle to Saariselkä, Kiilopää and Kakslauttanen. The direct flights to Ivalo announced for winter 2026-2027 had no published dates in mid-October; from Rovaniemi, allow 260 km and around 3 hours by bus.
Who it suits
Travellers who make the glass igloo the heart of the stay, on a half-board basis, far from everything. The 90 m² Kelo-Glass Igloo and the log cabins offer more space than a simple igloo. If you have your heart set on a Christmas market, aim for another base: Saariselkä publishes none for December.
