The town of Christmas fabrics
Mulhouse has found its signature: the Christmas fabrics. Every year since 1998, a designer creates an exclusive textile that decorates the chalets, streets and shop windows across the whole town. It is a strong identity, unique in France, and a nod to the city's industrial textile past.
The Christmas market sets up from 20 November to 27 December 2026 on Place de la Réunion, at the foot of the Temple Saint-Étienne and the painted old town hall, and extends onto Place des Cordiers. A striking architectural setting that gives the 90 wooden chalets a character of their own.
A market on a human scale
Less monumental than Strasbourg, less photogenic than Colmar, Mulhouse plays the card of authenticity and closeness. The exhibitors are mostly local, prices stay reasonable, and the crowds remain manageable even at weekends. This is the market where you take the time to talk to the artisans.
For children
Until the full 2026 programme is out, we stick to 2025: children were treated to storytelling sessions in French, Alsatian and German, among the chalets.
The Société industrielle mapping show
In the evening, the façade of the Société industrielle de Mulhouse serves as a screen for a sound and light mapping show: in 2025, for the third year running, a twelve-minute story inspired by the fabric theme. Whether it returns in 2026 depends on the full programme, still to be published.
Our tip
Mulhouse is often overlooked in favour of Strasbourg and Colmar, and that is no bad thing: prices are gentler, the atmosphere more family-oriented, and you can still find genuine local crafts without the crowds. The mapping show on the façade of the Société industrielle, in the evening, is worth the detour.
